Victory for Ricky at Oulton Park
Ricky secured a strong scholarship class victory during the first race at Oulton Park in round 10 of the Dunlop MSA Formula Ford Championship of Great Britain.
After a challenging free practice session on Friday, which was beset by mechanical problems, Ricky lined up on the grid first in class and seventh overall for the first race of the weekend.
Despite making a good start and leading the scholarship class, Ricky quickly found that the handling of the car had changed and his pace fell away, but he held on to secure an impressive scholarship class victory.
Race 2 was disappointing for Ricky and the Falcon team. A gearbox issue prevented him from getting the start he would have wanted. He set about making up for lost ground, but an incident on track ended the race early and he had to settle for a fourth place class finish.
A continuation of mechanical gremlins meant that the pressure was on Ricky. From his best overall qualifying position of fourth, he pushed hard from the off, but was unable to find the pace needed in the dry conditions. Towards the end it was clear that Ricky was struggling for power, which caused him to lose time. However, he went on to take a well-deserved second place class finish to round off his weekend.
Ricky Collard “The car was good in qualifying and the wet, so I was optimistic that we could get something out of the weekend. Saturday’s first race was good and to take the scholarship win was satisfying. Again, I was hopeful we could score some points in the second and third race, but we had gearbox problems with the car. Our plan now is to complete another test to find out how we can improve so that we are prepared for the next round at Croft in three weeks time.”
