Rob Collard and the BTCC head to Croft
After a roller coaster weekend at Oulton qualifying 16th with a heavily-ballasted car, Rob Collard overtook more than 40 cars on race day, but was rewarded with just a single sixth-place as he was spun by a rival in one race and sustained a puncture in another.
Rob lies third in the drivers’ championship and so will have 57kg of ballast in his car. He has nine podiums at Croft to his name and was a winner at the North Yorkshire venue last year. He needs just one more to achieve the 50th podium of his BTCC career.
Rob Collard said: “Oulton Park wasn’t what I’d hoped for in terms of results, but the speed of the BMW was really strong – especially once the weight came off – and I was able to pass about 40 cars despite it being a track where overtaking is very difficult. Just like Oulton, Croft is a circuit that’s traditionally been good for me and for the BMW. I’ve been on the podium there nine times including a win and a third for Team JCT600 with GardX last year and I’m sure we can put on a strong show again. I’m third in the championship and the points gap at the front is minimal, so the aim is to make sure we go into the summer break in the heart of the title battle.”
