A weekend to forget at Donington
Ricky arrived at Donington Park with high hopes after an impressive start to the 2014 season at Brands Hatch. A winner last time out, the British racing driver was to endure a weekend to forget in the second round of the British Formula Ford Championship.
The Falcon Motorsport driver was denied a qualifying position after a snapped throttle cable meant he was unable to take part in the session. The team worked hard to repair the cable, and Ricky was able to start the first race from the back of the grid.
Ricky made a clean getaway and instantly set about making his way up the order moving up five positions by the time he came out of the first corner, but it was to be short lived for the Hampshire driver. Just four laps into the race Ricky was forced to retire whilst defending his position on track.
The gremlins continued, and Ricky could not fight for a representative finish in the second race after disaster struck when gearbox issues were detected. Despite his best efforts had to accept a ninth place finish at the flag.
Ricky was unable to continue his momentum from Brands Hatch into the final race of the weekend after a clash with his team-mate on track resulted in a premature end to his race.
Ricky Collard, Falcon Motorsport “It turned out to be a challenging weekend. Today, we had all sorts of car problems, which are really frustrating. I am really disappointed not to have collected points or finished races that could have given me a good haul of championship points. We will go away now and forget this one! my focus now is on the next round at Thruxton in Hampshire.”
The next round of the Dunlop Formula Ford Championship of Great Britain will take place at Thruxton over the bank holiday weekend (3-4th May).
