Mondello Park - Rounds 9 & 10 2002

Collard racing took a major decision in the week coming up to the race weekend to withdraw from the Mondello rounds of the BTCC. After Boardman made contact with the Clio at the last round, removing the front right wheel section, and all the recent engine failures, it was decided that the car should receive a total overhaul to try to iron out the problems and the body work. The engine available was the same engine used at Silverstone, and was being prepared for the Mondello circuit, but as the car went through the final checks on the dyno, the IES built engine once again blew. Although he was very disappointed to be missing a circuit the Clio responds well to, Rob and his team were not prepared to go to Mondello on the one engine. On a positive note, time has allowed the new look Clio to be brought forward, with the new body kit currently being added, and a variation on design being considered. Pictures should be available soon. Collard racing is looking forward to the next rounds at Croft, after four races completed resulting in three podiums, if the engine holds together it should be a good race for the Clio.
